Homework...

Students will have the same homework daily (for the most part).  Each evening, students are expected to do the following:

  • read their AR book for 15 minutes
  • study spelling words - test on Fridays
  • Mad Minute math sheet
  • Everyday Math Home Links (This goes with the math lesson from the day and should take no more than 10-15 minutes).
Homework is due the next day.  Failure to complete assignments will result in students completing work in detention.

Snack Time

Since AES will no longer have the grant to provide each student with a fresh fruit/vegetable snack, students will be responsible for their own snacks this year.  The 2nd grade teachers, along with the support of our awesome parents, have created and sent home a snack calendar where each parent will only have to send a snack once per month.  Please, please, please make sure that snacks are prepackaged and meet the nutritional guidelines set by the WVDE.  We cannot serve snacks that don't meet the guidelines.  The calculator can be found here:  https://wvde.state.wv.us/child-nutrition/tools/calculator.html

Some items that we know meet the guidelines are:

  • all fresh fruit, vegetables (cannot be cut, must be store packaged)
  • Great Value (Walmart brand)90 Calorie Chewy Chocolate Chip Granola Bars
  • Snack Packs Sugar Free Jello
  • Stauffer's Original Animal Crackers
  • 100% Juice (some juices say 100% vitamin C, but it must be 100% juice)
  • Scooby Doo Graham Crackers

"What's Your Super Power?"

AES was full of super heroes on Tuesday, August 11th, as we held our annual Open House.  Families were treated to dinner, there was face painting and a super photo booth, plus representatives from various agencies throughout our community.  It was a great time for students, parents, and teachers!
